Ever fantasize what it might be like to work for one of the most storied teams in Major League Baseball? The players, the fans, the excitement and promise of spring training. The buzz of the crowd, the sounds of the vendors hawking beer and hot dogs, interspersed with the crack of the bat and the cheers of the fans conspiring to deliver a perfect summer day at historic Wrigley Field. From Evers, to Tinker, to Chance; to Ernie Banks and Billy Williams; from Ron Santo, Greg Maddux and Andre Dawson; to Bryan LaHair, Jeff Samardzija and Alfonso Soriano – the Cubs have created magical summers in Chicago for nearly 140 years.
Come spend an evening with Kevin Saghy, PR and marketing specialist with the Chicago Cubs, for an inside look at what it’s like to work in sports PR for one of the most loved franchises in professional sports. Kevin manages the club’s social media presence on outlets including Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, Tumblr, Foursquare and Instagram.
Prior to joining the Cubs, Kevin worked as an account executive in the corporate practice of Ketchum, a global public relations agency named “Large Agency of the Year” by The Holmes Report for 2009. Kevin was responsible for traditional and social media relations, writing, event promotion and influencer programs for a list of clients that included Best Buy’s Geek Squad, FedEx, Dyson, Kellogg Company, State Street Corp. and Ketchum’s visibility teams.
Kevin was recognized as the Young Professional Mentor of the Year by the Plank Centerfor Leadership in Public Relations in 2010. He also received PRSA Chicago’s Young Professional of the Year Award in 2009. He has been a member of several nationally recognized account teams, including PRWeek’s 2009 Business-to-Business Campaign of the Year for the launch of International Truck’s LoneStar semi truck, and Western Union’s PRSA Silver Anvil campaign for coordinating the company’s quarterly earnings and first ever investor day.
Kevin serves as an advisory board member for the Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations, co-chair of Champions for PRSSA, founding board member of the Ohio Northern Chicago Alumni Club and he volunteers for several Chicago-based and national PRSA committees. As a past national president of the student organization (PRSSA), he remains committed to initiatives that advance students in the public relations industry.

20 Years and Counting….
It started 20 years ago as the Greater O’Hare chapter – suburban PR professionals who couldn’t spare time to from their busy schedules during the day to attend the downtown PRSA luncheons. Now as the PRSA Suburban Chicago marks our 20th year of dedication, growth, and learning within the suburban public relations community, we’re celebrating all we have achieved, and looking forward to what’s to come.
Join us in our year-long celebration as we remember the past and honor
those who helped made our chapter a success. We have a special celebration taking place on November 13th, keynoted by professional comedian, former college professor and spouse of a PR professional, Rex Havens.
Rex takes the very heart of the world around each of us, applies his own gentle combination of logic, bemusement and insanity, and offers it back to his audience in a way that is engaging, thoughtful and hilarious. Rex has always believed that laughter is the best defense against a confusing and challenging world. Rex’s take on marriage and family has propelled him to performances in all 50 states and around the world, including London, Hong Kong, Amsterdam, Bermuda, Montreal, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Aruba, Rome and Cannes.
It’s challenging enough to get coverage for your company or client when you have actual newsworthy events happening. Every PR professional has hit a dry spell, when there just isn’t anything newsworthy happening with your company or client, yet you need to maintain your presence in the public discussion. But what do you do when you hit that dry spell? You need something to talk about – but what? How do you find newsworthy information when there’s nothing much happening?
Join us at our Tuesday, June 12th program and learn how to find or develop news that’s useful and interesting when there just isn’t any with Chicago PR agency president Tom Ciesielka.
Tom Ciesielka, President of TC Public Relations, has worked in public relations, marketing and business development for more than 25 years and enjoys working with clients ranging from law firms to national and local companies. In its service to the legal community TC Public Relations has handled publicity for litigation cases, medical malpractice cases, government disputes, civil rights and free speech cases. Tom has secured media placements for his clients in outlets such as: CNN, The New York Times, National Public Radio, USA Today and Good Morning America. He has worked directly with such household names as Verizon Wireless, Disney Television and Yale University Press.
Prior to starting his agency, Ciesielka was the marketing director for the Museum of Broadcast Communications, where he produced and promoted exhibitions on the development of American soap operas, rock & roll music on television and Walt Disney’s innovations in broadcasting. Visitors to Tom’s office are often privy to his “inanimate” audience of Simpson’s collectibles, classic robots and hand-crafted toys.
In the more than 20 years helping businesses, organizations and individuals with their public relations, Tom has had the opportunity to observe some blunders along the way and some PR stunts that, “make me laugh and angry.” The intersection between comedy and tragedy inspired him to start his blog, PRforLaughs.
